Road trip with Celebrity Photographer Robert Evans of Orange County

Hello Everyone, I’m at the Las Vegas Wedding and Portrait Photographer Conference having a blast, sucking up the knowledge being distributed, staying up late, and waking early.  It’s my first time in Vegas.  I have a wonderful room mate from Santa Cruz who shares the same passion for learning. We both study and read in our rooms when not in session.

Originally, I had a Vegas RT flight from San Francisco, but a sudden opportunity to ride with Celeb Photographer Robert Evans from Orange County was before me, and I would have been a fool to pass it up.  In case some of you don’t know, Robert Evans is an amazing photographer with amazing breath-taking images.  He was the exclusive photographer to Tom and Kat Cruise’s wedding, as well as Brad Pitt and Jennifer Annistan.  He has shot Jim Carrey and Cristina Agulara.  He showed me his 300 image album in the car on the way to Vegas.  Every image has the wow factor in it.  Brilliant composition and feeling.  I had purchased my plane tickets to the OC a few hours before I left to the airport, which thank you to Anthony Sprunk for driving me there.

On the way up to Vegas, time flew.  It seemed there wasn’t enough time to talk, as we both couldn’t shut up.  We stopped at Subway on the way (He likes Subway).  He bought gas.  I bought Subway and his gum.  Not much of a trade-off, but he wouldn’t let me share the fuel costs.  One of his passions is mentoring other photographers, so was I really glad to have this personal road trip with someone I rarely knew.

One of the statements Robert Evans said to me on the phone before arriving, which blew me away, was, “Ask me any question you want.”  I was like wow, one on one time with a great photographer.  So, even though I lost my original plane ticket and had to pay more to take a detour, it was way worth my time to have 4-5 hours with this wonderful guy.  He is very personable, caring, and generous of his knowledge.  He is also a people watcher.  We were at Subway, and I saw him staring at a group, his attention was focused, and I said, “what’s up?”  He was like, “Oh sorry, I have a habit of people watching, as my wife tells me I do.”  Then he talked about where this group was possibly going, and what they were probably going to do.  Anyway, it was interesting getting to know a little of this guy.

I’m getting ready to go down and meet up with some new photography friends at the Canon pool party, which is for everyone (it’s about 9:20p.m.).  I will be in contact later, but I just wanted to share this amazing opportunity to meet someone such as Robert Evans.  Tomorrow, I was meet up with Kevin Focht from Portland.  I’ve seen Tori Plant from our area, and Gavin, my second shooter a few weeks ago. I’m hoping to see Travis Hoehne around here somewhere.  I hope you’re all doing well.  Blessings to you all!

Amador County Wedding Photography – Evan + Marisa

Last Saturday I photographed Beautiful Marisa and Evan’s wedding here in Amador County, at the Italian Picnic grounds in Sutter Hill, California. I had shot their engagement session recently in January (which is viewable HERE on this blog).  I knew Marisa from our church and youth group, and then she went to Bible College in Hawaii where she met her man, Evan almighty (or just Evan).

Marisa, the beautiful bride, and her ladies had been getting ready at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Hotel, and the boys soon met up for some man shots.  I really like man shots. If I can bring out the man in the man, then we can tip the scales evenly.  Men want to feel like Kings (but not a Prince because those guys usually wear tights…not good).  Women want to feel like Princesses in a Fairy Tale, with men who will sweep them off their feet, love them, and take care of them.

It definitely was was a beautiful wedding.  Sooo many images, and once again, these images are just the previews to coming attractions, which is near 1000 images on a DVD.  I usually just choose a few for the web.

Jackson California Photographer – Kaizen Martial Arts Life-sized Freaking Print

I was actually quite surprised and excited when I came by Kaizen Martial Arts studio last week, owned by my friends, Anthony and Harmony Hanks.  As I dropped my daughter off for karate practice, I saw my images on their window, the life-sized version.  I was like,….that is so cool! I’ve never seen my images printed that huge before!  It was actually printed as a shade for the inside, and shows the image only on the outside, printed by Jackson Signs, (owned by Mike Reagon, another friend).  Thank you to Anthony and Harmony for asking me to work with you, and pushing and challenging me to think outside the box.  I always like a challenge.  I liked the grunge look idea.  That image is on my earlier blogs, as I hooked up three strobes for a straight flash to give it more a dramatic look, and to over expose just a little for what I was hoping to achieve.

This is from the parking lot, from the side of the building. That image is huge. The one below is a vertical image of the front door. Pretty cool.

Amador County Maternity Photographer – Kirsten

Here are some maternity images of Kirsten who wanted something artistic and fashionable, yet motherly. So, here they are…

Sacramento Amador Band Photographer: Erin McKinney & HOTT LeDD

CHARLETON CHURCHILL PHOTOGRAPHY

Here is a band I have been working with, most of them from Sacramento and Roseville, California.  A wonderful band that plays in Amador County quite a bit.  I have the pleasure of working with Erin McKinney and her band.  Here a are a few images from our shoot.  They are working on finishing their press kit.  I’m glad to be working with them.

San Francisco Bay Area Wedding Photographer: Darren + Sara

CHARLETON CHURCHILL PHOTOGRAPHY
I met Sara and Darren at one of my other bay area weddings in Livermore, California, photographing Sara & Tim Vanier’s wedding. Darren is a Pediatrician, and Sara is a nurse, a very good couple.  Darren proposed to Sara at the Cavallo Point Lodge (north side of the Golden Gate Bride, and where we shot our engagement session).  It was pretty windy and a little cold, but we had a good time.  I will be going back there in June to capture their wedding, probably more in Marin, California.  Thanks to Cathy Schultz for her enthusiasm in my work, as well as Sarah and Tim, for being a voice in the bay area.  Thank you to Sydney for being a friend, and for trusting me and believing in my work.  You are all wonderful.  I’ll see you all in June.  Alright, here are some teasers of Darren and Sara’s engagement session and wedding to come…

Michell White - Nice!

Roseville Sacramento Wedding Photographer: Ashlie & Tony

Here are few teaser images of Ashlie and Tony’s engagement (e-session) a few weeks ago.  We met at the Firehouse Restaurant in downtown Sacramento, California to capture a few moments together before their wedding day in April.  Ashlie and Tony will be having their ceremony in Roseville, California.  I was overjoyed (yes, I did just use that word) with how much there was to shoot.  It’s too bad I couldn’t stay longer to get more images.  I’ll have to come back another time for round two, and three, and four, and then still bring back something different.  It was good working with both of them.  Tony’s quite the model, and wasn’t afraid to throw his confidence in so many poses.  Ashlie will be a wonderful bride.  She seems quiet, but we had some hilarious shots with both of them that I cannot post (because high school seniors look at my blog,…).  I look forward to capturing their modern wedding day in Roseville.

Bay Area San Francisco Wedding Photographer: Golden Gate Bridge

Alright, so I shot a San Francisco Bay engagement session today with Darren and Sara, and there was no rain at all. Beautiful day actually.  Cloudy, but no rain.  After I was finished photographing Sara and Darren at the Cavallo Point Lodge (where Darren proposed to Sara, I believe in Sausalito before Marin), I went to the south side of the Golden Gate Bridge.  I waited for the sun to drop, hoping for some sort of magical sky.  Anyway, it wasn’t magical, but I got some nice images from the hour I spent there.  Here’s an image for now…

Amador County High School Senior Portrait Model Rep – Christian – Jackson Photographer

This is Christian. He is a Senior from Amador High School in Sutter Creek, Ca. He lives in Jackson, and was chosen as one of the males to represent Charleton Churchill Photography for the 2010-2011 year. This was a pre-session session, which is actually called my mini-session. It was quite entertaining interacting with Christian. He is hilarious and fun. I look forward to capturing more of Christian on our fully loaded senior session, along with the other chosen models representing fashionable, modern, and popular senior portrait photography in Amador County (and now Calaveras…that’s right, we’re looking for 2011 senior CCP reps to represent Calaveras County).
